The problem is probably that /etc/lilo.conf still refers to
/boot/initrd-2.2.12-20.img.
Try doing a make bzImage, then
cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.2.13
cp System.map /boot/System.map-2.2.13
and edit lilo.conf to have a section of:
image = /boot/vmlinuz-2.2.13
label = testing
and then run lilo. If that doesn't work, dd the old kernel to a floppy,
use rdev to change the root (rdev /dev/fd0 /dev/hda1), and then remove
references to /boot/vmlinuz-2.2.12-20 from lilo.conf.
