Thanks Philip, no offence taken (i mayaswell be a 'newbie' all over again
since i havnt used linux in almost a year... mainly due to that ugly
winmodem *grin*)
yeah... i actually set up the modem 'as-per-uaual' even though it has been
almost a year & 1/2 since i did it under linux... and thats whats so
confusing! at first i thought that mabe i had damaged the modem while
moving it from box-to-box, but since its working fine under windows its
obviously working fine. its starting to realy drive me crazy, and nothing
that ive come across has shed any light on the subject... nothing be it
minicom or a reular setup of ppp seems to accept that its there and set up.
in any case, if i dont find some reason for this refusal to accept that
there is a modem on com2 ill probably just (1) forget about it or (2) fork
out #100 for an external modem which always seems to work just
fine-and-dandy when i borrow 'em.....
ps: it was a genius pnp standdard internal (isa) 33.6k modem incase that
sheds any light on my problem! :-)
