[ILUG] ethernet set-up

Hi all,

should be an easy one this...I've had some problems setting up ethernet
stuff on my 'puter here in work.

I have an ethernet express, and I got the i/o and irq off a dos utility.
The card's found, driver's loaded, and all's well in the world from that
end. However, eth0 doesn't seem to be responding to any stimuli, and
remains oblivious to the outside world.

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup is pretty much the default (ifconfig
and route add) and ifcfg-eth0 seems to have the correct values for stuff.
I've been allocated a static IP, and the machine has been christened, and
I've got the nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf, as they should be.

But I get no response at all. Bummer. Any ideas? A step-by-step of how to
get "ethernetworking" sorted? Which is most likely to mess up everything,
a bad gateway, or a bad netmask? Either could be wrong, I think, although
it's unlikely. Any and all ideas are welcome.

Cheers,
Dave Neary.

BTW has anyone heard about a Linux vs NT vs Unix seminal early next month?
Is it an ILUG event?
