well, this is probly stretching it a bit, but all my problems were solved
by squeezing a bit harder with the crimper. :) some rj45 faceplates also
don't really pinch through the insulation adequately so you should pull the
wires out of the slots and check. the best faceplates are colour-coded for
T568A wiring though, come with a little plastic jobby which you stick the
wires into, and then snap down on the back (wiring end) of the socket, with
a satisfying `click'.
another thing to try is use 192.168.1.* instead of 192.168.0.*, and make sure
the corresponding netmask is 255.255.255.0. this all presumes that you're
using reserved ip addresses of course. linux 2.2.* really makes all this a
piece o' piss though, so if you made the cables yourself, make them again. :)

button if you're so inclined.
