This makes it sound like you're logging in as root regularly. This is a bad
idea, not least because there's no audit trail left behind. It's generally
a better idea to use either su or sudo instead.
But, if you're convinced that it's the best way to go, and that it's not
going to have any odd side-effects, the way to do it is to change root's
entry in /etc/passwd.
