I think if 'encrypt passwords = Yes' is specified in global section another password file other than /etc/passwd should be provided for authentication into samba. Did you do that before all your clients begin to talk to Samba?/Symbol 0100,0100,0100Times New RomanOn 19 Dec 00, at 12:29, Adrian Flynn wrote: Send reply to: 0000,0000,8000<Symbol Times New RomanFrom: 0000,0000,8000"Adrian Flynn" <Symbol Times New RomanTo: 0000,0000,8000<,Symbol Times New Roman 0000,0000,8000<Symbol Times New RomanSubject: 0000,0000,8000RE: [ILUG] Why NT can't explore samba?Symbol Times New RomanDate sent: 0000,0000,8000Tue, 19 Dec 2000 12:29:12 -0000Symbol Times New RomanDan Your problem seems to lie in the Global section of your smb.conf file. I have samba working well for Win95, WinNT and Windows 2000 clients using the following global settings: [global] workgroup = XXX netbios name = XXXX interfaces = eth0 encrypt passwords = Yes keepalive = 30 os level = 65 kernel oplocks = No hosts allow = xxx.xxx.x. <<-- insert your subnet here eg: 192.100.200. level2 oplocks = Yes These settings ensure that the samba server will be the Workgroup Master Browser Rgds Adrian -----Original Message----- From: ilug-admin@linux.ie [mailto:ilug-admin@linux.ie]On Behalf Of dan@public1.wx.js.cn Sent: 19 December 2000 09:35 To: ilug@linux.ie Subject: [ILUG] Why NT can't explore samba? It works with a windows95 client. but when I click the icon of the linux box in network neighborhood from a NT server, it pops up a windows that says wrong password or unknown username. I tried put in the username and password as specified in the smb.conf file it tells me the username is not allowed on the linux machine. but the username does work for all windows95 clients.
